WATERLOO’S NEW GATES PARK AMENITIES OPENED ON JULY 30TH!

WATERLOO, IA – New spray and play amenities are opening at noon today at Gates Park in Waterloo, marking completion of the first phase of the project. Located at 820 East Donald Street, the Pauline R. Barrett Inclusive Playground and the Gates Spray Pad will be opening at this time. The new parking lot is located at the intersection of Mildred Avenue and East Dale Street.

Work is still underway on other amenities including basketball courts, a roller-skating track, amphitheater, soccer field, and additional new parking. A formal opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held after the entire Gates Park Improvement Project is complete. The park was designed by Ritland Kuiper Landscape Architects and built by Woodruff Construction. 

Funds for this project were provided by: Black Hawk Gaming Association, Van G. Miller Family Charitable Foundation, RJ McElroy Trust, Otto Schoitz Foundation, Enhance Iowa CAT Grant, Pauline R. Barrett Foundation, John Deere, Young Family Foundation, Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, Max and Helen Guernsey Foundation, Ross Christensen Family Foundation, Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors, VGM Group Inc., Ike Leighty Fund, Young-Magid Fund, RAGBRAI Committee, Kiwanis Club of Waterloo, Gallagher Family Foundation, Dick H. and Immy Young Family Foundation, and many individuals who donated to the “Make a Splash Fund” at the Waterloo Community Foundation. City of Waterloo funds will cover 35% of project costs.
