The Waterloo Center for the Arts is partnering with Veridian Credit Union to host ¡Fiesta! A Celebration of Latino Culture for a fun-filled day of cultural activities on Saturday, July 20th. The family-friendly outdoor festival will feature Latino food vendors, live entertainment, traditional dance, a hip-hop performance, a salsa lesson, self-defense lesson and children’s activities including cultural crafts, games, piñata and face painting.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Con Amor Home Bakery, Don Gomez, Taquizas Mexicanas, Taqueria y Antojitos La Chatita and Mexgirl Antojitos with additional food options available from Ruth Palmer Real Estate. The event kicks off at 1:00 pm and admission is free and open to the public. Additional support for ¡Fiesta! is provided by Friends of the Art Center, Green Counseling Services, and Sam’s Club.

For their first time at the RiverLoop Amphitheatre, Son Peruchos will be headlining Saturday’s concert. Son Peruchos, based in Des Moines, Iowa, is a fusion of Andean and South American folk music utilizing traditional instruments such as the zampona, quena and charango. This musical group also integrates their traditional Andean sound with more modern Latin and Caribbean rhythms such as cumbia, bachata and rock en español.

Additionally, the Waterloo Center for the Arts in partnership with the Cedar Valley SportsPlex, Veridian Credit Union and Waterloo Public Library will offer special fitness and storytime satellite events for all ages on the morning of ¡Fiesta! that begin at 8:00 am featuring Yoga, Dance & Hula Hoop with Cedar Valley SportsPlex and an additional Zumba class with instructor Angelica Rodríguez. Kids can also enjoy a bilingual story time with sponsor Veridian Credit Union beginning at 10:00 am on the RiverLoop Arts Mall stage. Children can also join in another bilingual storytime offered by the Waterloo Public Library as a part of their ongoing storytime programming in the Waterloo Public Library courtyard at 10:30 am adjacent to the morning fitness activities. Admission for the satellite activities is free and open to all.
