Have you heard of the Cedar Valley Bicycle Collective?
Know someone that needs a bike? They have a great "Earn a Bike" program! Make sure to take time to discuss bicycle safety with your children! School is letting out and our kids will be spending more time on their bikes, and we want to make sure all have a safe summer!
The CVBC is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a store front at 219 West 4th Street in Waterloo, Iowa. The first line of our mission statement is to “build community through bicycling”. We accept donations of used bicycles and bicycle equipment and refurbish it for resale. Annual memberships start at $10 and go up from there. We offer a “Rent a Bench” program to repair bicycles at $5/hour for nonmembers and 12 hours of free bench time for members. We also offer an “Earn a Bike” (EAB) program where a person can work for 10 hours for the CVBC and then receive a bicycle of their choice that needs repair. The EAB recipients takes approximately 10 more hours to repair their bike with parts supplied by the CVBC. Our store hours are Monday and Wednesdays from 5 - 8 PM and Saturdays from 11 AM - 2:00 PM.
Bike safety is very important to the CVBC and making sure your tires are pumped up, your brakes are in operating condition and your drive train is fully functional go along way to insuring a safe biking experience. In addition we encourage riders to wear a helmet, brightly colored clothing, use a flashing light front and rear and obey all traffic signs. Remember to always let pedestrians and other cyclist know when you are passing. Now get out and enjoy this great summer weather!
